From the beginning of the letter, you could tell how angry celie was at God. Celie wrote to Nettie to explain to her that God isn’t on her side. She doesn’t believe in God because of her anger and what has made her not believe in him. Celie doesn’t understand in believing God because she has had a lot of problems and God has helped with none of them so Celie stopped writing to him. Celie explains how she doesn’t go to church and how it is pointless because people don’t go to church and find a God there, they bring their God with them to church. Later on when Celie understands that God is a white man she has lost all respect. Why should we treat all the white men differently? They are all the same to Celie. When her friend starts to talk to Celie about how God has created everything and for a reason out of love and Celie begins to understand more why she should believe in him. Celie still finds it difficult to believe in God because he is a white man but she understands that the problems she is having are not caused by God.

Sarah, I really enjoyed reading your blog about The Color Purple. However, I somewhat disagree with your take on Celie's anger towards God. It seems as though Celie, to me, is more confused than anything and is trying to find ways to cope with the confusion of religion by seeing God in everything around her. Her version of God is very similar to the Hindu version of God and it is interesting to see how she describes her beliefs. Good Blog Sarah!
Very good blog! I agree with how you think Celie is angry at God because she starts to talk about how God never does anything for the poor black people. She says that if he did then the poor black people wouldn't be where they are, which shows the anger Celie has.
Keep it up!
Good ideas, i hadn't really thought about how angry she was at God, i had only seen that she was no longer writing to him because she though he didn't care. I dont think that she really ever stops believing in God though, because she does talk about what she thinks he is like during the letter. I think she is only changing the way in which she views God. What you wrote about what she things about man being god is interesting, i thought that that was fairly irrelevant and that it was more about a human being god than a white man.
Nice blog. I agree that Celie is upset and angry with God. She relates men to God and how they think they are God. I think that is what drives her to not talk to him and give up on him rather than her new image of God. Celie learns from Shug that God is not a white male but rather an It. Shug also made the mistake of leaving Celie to deal with her new image of God to herself.
